Bebop privacy policy

Effective 21 September 2026; updated 29 September 2026 to describe artwork downloads. This policy covers the Bebop Chrome new-tab extension, published by Jack Cotton-Brown.

What stays on your device

Bebop stores your vocabulary-level choices, display preferences and word-shuffle state locally in your Chrome profile. It uses Chrome's local storage, not Chrome Sync. These records let the extension remember your settings and avoid repeating words unnecessarily.

Collection and sharing

Bebop does not send these records to the developer or any other service. It has no analytics, advertising, tracking, account sign-in or payment system. It does not access your browsing history, other tabs, visited websites, contacts or location.

The vocabulary, example sentences, application code and a sample of the artwork are included in the extension. The rest of the artwork is downloaded from Bebop's image host, art.bebopjapanese.com (served by Cloudflare), a few cards before it is needed, checked against a fingerprint included in the extension, and then kept on your device while it is needed: the images of the next and most recent cards stay, about 9 MB for each mix of levels you use, and the rest are deleted. The host receives the usual browser request for an image (such as your IP address and which image was requested) and nothing else: no account, settings or study history. Bebop never downloads remote code.

Links and support

If you choose to open a source or license link, the linked website receives the usual browser request and its own privacy policy applies. If you email support, the email address and information you send are used to respond to your request. Please do not include sensitive information unless necessary.

Control and removal

You can change your preferences in Bebop's settings. Uninstalling the extension removes its local extension storage. There is no developer-held learning profile to delete.

Changes and contact

This policy will be updated if the extension's data practices change. Contact jack@heygentic.com.au with privacy or support questions.
